As we begin our 2008-2009 Rotary year with the International
theme “Make Dreams Real”, I look forward to working with you and consider it a
privilege to serve as the President of the Downtown Macon Rotary Club.
Through the Rotary International theme and the support of our international
President D.K. Lee, we are honoring the history of Rotarian accomplishments and
dedicating ourselves to the service of future generations. As a club, I
hope we can create a new sense of fellowship with both our membership and our
community as that is the path in Rotary that leads to service.
People often join Rotary because they are drawn to community
service; however, members stay in Rotary because they have developed a close
group of friends who are both business and service minded. A top priority will be a focus on increased
membership retention to better diversify our membership and better accomplish
our community service goals. To maintain
our membership we will continue to provide meaningful and interesting programs,
increase committee involvement, strengthen our orientation process and increase
the number of social/fellowship events.
With our increased focus on fellowship and membership we hope
to reap the rewards of increased stewardship to the communities we serve. Working with fellow Rotarians on service
projects such as the Ferst Foundation Imagination Library, and honoring
Teachers as Professionals as part of our vocational service events,
participating in our annual Feed 104+ Family and Crimestoppers projects and
continued support of Rotary International projects, GRSP and RYLA, we can
continue the strong history of “service above
self” founded by all of the Downtown Macon Rotary members. Dreams will continue to be made
“real” through the partnerships of our Rotarians members and community.
I am honored that you have given me opportunity to serve as
your President and continue to appreciate your suggestions and participation to
make this a successful year.
